Satellite TV For Free

How to Get Free HD TV Channels Without Cable

Can you really get free satellite TV? Yes! If you’re paying for satellite TV service, it may surprise you to learn that there’s a free version, too. “Free to air” satellite TV delivers thousands of channels of broadcast content via satellite to consumers all over the world. FTA signals are not encrypted if you have the right receiving equipment, you can forget about subscription fees and decoders.

And yes, it’s perfectly legal. The producers of FTA free satellite TV content distribute their programming via satellite because it’s the most efficient way to reach their audiences. It’s quite similar to the free over-the-air television broadcasts that you can receive with a TV antenna – just a different means of transmission.

Typically, FTA broadcasters are government-sponsored public TV services, like PBS in the United States. They don’t air commercials or charge subscription fees. But you can also find a wide variety of channels, including news, sports, religious and ethnic programming.

Of course, you won’t get CNN, FOX, MTV, ESPN, HBO, or any of the high-priced premium channels that are delivered only via encrypted satellite or cable TV signals. But there are plenty of broadcasts that you can get free of charge, from many sources that deliver FTA broadcasts via satellite. FTA satellite TV is a favorite among expatriates, who want to stay tuned to the channels of their home nations but don’t want to pay for it.

Stream Basic Live TV Channels With Puffer

Next, there’s Puffer. This is a free test program run by Stanford University. It seems like they’re testing a new encoding or streaming software, but what it means for you and me is we get free TV!

Puffer provides free streams for the most basic channels: ABC, CBS, NBC, FOX, PBS, and Univision. Sound too good to be true? It’s not!

Stream live TV in your browser. There’s no charge. You can watch U.S. TV stations affiliated with the NBC, CBS, ABC, PBS, FOX, and Univision networks.

Puffer works well in the Chrome, Firefox, and Edge browsers, on a computer or an Android phone or tablet. Puffer does not work on iPhones or iPads or in the Safari browser.

Puffer is a research project in the computer-science department at Stanford University. Please see our FAQ for more information.

I personally like the very clean, simplistic layout. The channels also change faster than any other streaming service I’ve ever used. I think that’s part of the new software Stanford is testing!

One thing to note is that the service is currently capped at 500 users at a time. However, this is a freebie I’ve yet to see advertised on any other freebie or cord cutting site, so I’m almost certain it’ll be 500 Hiffers using this

The channels are also California channels, since this is broadcast from Stanford.

You *may* Get Free Cable Television

Yes, I said it.

Its completely possible to get free cable television.

I know this because I am able to.

Its not guaranteed to work in all cases, but this is what worked for me.

Thats why I starred AND underlined the word may in the heading!

There are no strings attached.

You dont need to buy one of those black box cable television descramblers or whatever they may be called these days .

You dont need to buy any equipment to connect to your computer.

You dont need to tap into your neighbors cable television service .

You dont even have to go to any of those life hacking or cheap living sites to learn how to build your own antenna.

You have all you need right at home alreadyassuming you have a fairly modern television.

I will warn you that you do need a little free time and some patience, but thats all.

Sometimes it takes up to an hour to process, but in the end, it could be worth it!

How To Watch Local Channels Via Streaming Services

How to Get Free Broadcast TV at Home and Save a Bundle

People normally think of Netflix and Hulu when it comes to streaming services. But Live TV streaming services are in a different category . And in this field, the biggest thing that separates services is their support of local channels.

If youd like access to local channels, your best bet is to find a streaming service that will allow you to watch local channels online. All you need is an internet connection. And along with the local channels, you get a bunch of premium cable channels with these subscriptions.

Whats important to understand about local broadcast channels is that networks like Fox arent just single channels. Networks that are known as local channels are affiliated with a local counterpart. This is why local network affiliates may only be available in some areas but not in others.

Additionally, each streaming service must have a contract with the local channel. This is why some are missing nationwide or in a particular location. For example, Sling TV offers relatively few local channels but this allows them to keep their prices down.

Try it now

With FuboTV, you get access to up to eight local channels: ABC, CBS, Fox, NBC, The CW, Telemundo, Unimas, and Univision. These will be available in most locations with near-universal support of ABC, CBS, Fox, NBC, and Telemundo.

FuboTV offers two live TV plans where you can stream local channels without cable. They also offer a Latino plan with Spanish-language local channels.

Monthly Online TV Services

To get more than one channel at once, including premium options, you need to subscribe to a monthly service like Hulu Live TV, YouTube TV, or Sling TV. All of these options provide a strong connection and easy setup, but they differ in the channels they offer. For example, YouTube TV doesnt have a great spread of sports channels, while Sling TV lacks many local free-to-air stations. Before you invest in any subscription, test out that services free trial to get a feel for the experience and make sure it includes your favorite channels. Heres some more information that should help you choose.

For $64.99 per month, Hulu Live TV provides access to Hulus regular on-demand library, as well as more than 65live channels. The exact mix depends on your location, so enter your zip code here to see which live content you would receive. You can also pay more for additional features, such as 200 hours of cloud DVR recording or premium channels like Showtime and HBO . As a default, you can only use Hulu Live TV on one computer, but another $9.99 per month lets you access your stream on an unlimited number of devices.

How To Install An Hd Antenna: Step

If youre considering purchasing an HD antenna or have already bought one, see this step-by-step guide on how to install it on your home TV to watch local channels without a cable TV subscription. The local channels you can typically get anywhere are ABC, CBS, Fox, and NBC.

In higher-population areas, you can normally get PBS and Telemundo. You can get other local network affiliates and independent stations depending on whether they are in your area.

Note that sometimes, streaming services will provide regional feeds of networks in areas that dont have a corresponding local channel. These wont be found OTA.

  • Unpack the HD antenna from its box. Ensure you have the:
  • Main antenna unit
  • Coaxial cable
  • Support pins these will allow you to fix your antenna against a wall.
  • Connect either end of the coaxial cable to your TV. This may be labeled DTV, TV, Cable, Antenna, In, or something similar. Connect the other end to the HD antenna output.
  • Turn on your TV and set the tuner mode to the antenna. This will be labeled something like TV, Antenna, or Air.
  • Scan for channels. After this is finished, you will see your local channels pop up.
  • This particular guide is based on the Indoor Leaf Antenna but the process is much the same with other indoor and outdoor antennas. Refer to your TVs manual if you struggle to get local channels live.

    Without Any Cable And Antenna

When you want to use neither cable nor antenna, there is another option. It is easy and convenient to set up for getting local channels in your area indeed. However what you need-

    • DTV Converter Box
    • Coaxial Wire
    • Antenna

The digital television is available to most of the house. It is easy to set up the program to get channels on digital TV. You dont have digital TV and cable service but you want to get TV reception. For this, the above three components are required to make it done. When you have set up the DTV converter box you may get local channels in your area.

    DTV Converter Box

DTV converter box is available in the electronic store and the price is really negotiable which may range from $40-$70. This converter box is not compatible with multi-television. It is for one TV.

    Antenna

The antenna is required to make the converter box usable. The antenna may be set up on the rooftop to make sure reception will be better and the picture can be so clear and it depends on the settings of the TV antenna. More importantly, a coaxial cable is also required to connect it.

There is an antenna In port on the DTV converter where you need to plug the coaxial wire to be connected to the antenna into this port.

The coaxial wire that comes from the DTV converter box needs to be connected with the TV and converter box. So plug one the end of the coaxial wire in Antenna In and other ends of the coaxial wire Out to TV port on your converter box.

What If You Get No Cable TV

How To Get Free Satellite TV Channels

Not everyone will be able to get free cable television direct from the wall jack. In that case, you should look into HD TV antennas.

The great thing about technology is that we do have so many options available to us besides traditional cable television subscriptions.

One of the things that I hear people doing is using an HD tv antenna.

Sure, it sounds old-school, but there is a big benefit to it:

All over-the-air television signals are uncompressed and therefore are true high-definition signals.

That means even if you cant get free cable television the way I am able to, you may be able to at least get the next best option.

There are a few caveats, however:

    • The further you are from a tower, the weaker the signal will be and the fewer channels you will receive
    • The makeup of your home will also impede the signal
    • Line-of-sight to a tower is important in terms of trees, mountains, hills, other buildings and structures
    • Naturally, the weather will also play a part

The FCC even has a DTV Coverage Map showing you which DTV signals you should be able to access and how strong of a signal you should get.

Its not exact, but can be used as a reasonable guide.

But, if you get lucky and buy an HD tv antenna like one of the ones below, you may be able to keep your entertainment budget lower than if you paid for cable television.

    List Of United States Over

In the United States, for most of the history of broadcasting, there were only three or four major commercial national terrestrialnetworks. From 1946 to 1956, these were ABC, CBS, NBC and DuMont . From 1956 to 1986, the “Big Three” national commercial networks were ABC, CBS, and NBC . From 1954 to 1970, National Educational Television was the national clearinghouse for public TV programming the Public Broadcasting Service succeeded it in 1970.

Today, more than fifty national free-to-air networks exist. Other than the non-commercial educational PBS, which is composed of member stations, the largest terrestrial television networks are the traditional Big Three television networks . Many other large networks exist, however, notably Fox and The CW which air original programming for two hours each night instead of three like the original “Big Three” do, as well as syndication services like MyNetworkTV and Ion which feature reruns of recent popular shows with little to no original programming. Fox has just about the same household reach percentage as the Big Three, and is therefore often considered a peer to ABC, NBC, and CBS since it has also achieved equal or better ratings since the late 1990s as of 2019, it also programs the equivalent amount of sports programming as the Big Three. Most media outlets now include Fox in what they refer to as the “Big Four” TV networks.

Free-to-air networks in the U.S. can be divided into five categories:
