If you’re paying for satellite TV service, it may surprise you to learn that there’s a free version, too. “Free to air” satellite TV delivers thousands of channels of broadcast content via satellite to consumers all over the world. FTA signals are not encrypted if you have the right receiving equipment, you can forget about subscription fees and decoders.
And yes, it’s perfectly legal. The producers of FTA free satellite TV content distribute their programming via satellite because it’s the most efficient way to reach their audiences. It’s quite similar to the free over-the-air television broadcasts that you can receive with a TV antenna – just a different means of transmission.

Stream Basic Live TV Channels With Puffer
Next, there’s Puffer. This is a free test program run by Stanford University. It seems like they’re testing a new encoding or streaming software, but what it means for you and me is we get free TV!
Puffer provides free streams for the most basic channels: ABC, CBS, NBC, FOX, PBS, and Univision. Sound too good to be true? It’s not!
Stream live TV in your browser. There’s no charge. You can watch U.S. TV stations affiliated with the NBC, CBS, ABC, PBS, FOX, and Univision networks.
Puffer works well in the Chrome, Firefox, and Edge browsers, on a computer or an Android phone or tablet. Puffer does not work on iPhones or iPads or in the Safari browser.

I personally like the very clean, simplistic layout. The channels also change faster than any other streaming service I’ve ever used. I think that’s part of the new software Stanford is testing!
One thing to note is that the service is currently capped at 500 users at a time. However, this is a freebie I’ve yet to see advertised on any other freebie or cord cutting site, so I’m almost certain it’ll be 500 Hiffers using this

Yes, I said it.
Its completely possible to get free cable television.
I know this because I am able to.
Its not guaranteed to work in all cases, but this is what worked for me.
Thats why I starred AND underlined the word may in the heading!
There are no strings attached.
You dont need to buy one of those black box cable television descramblers or whatever they may be called these days .
You dont need to buy any equipment to connect to your computer.
You dont need to tap into your neighbors cable television service .
You dont even have to go to any of those life hacking or cheap living sites to learn how to build your own antenna.
You have all you need right at home alreadyassuming you have a fairly modern television.
I will warn you that you do need a little free time and some patience, but thats all.
Sometimes it takes up to an hour to process, but in the end, it could be worth it!

In most cases, the latest seasons of primetime shows are available to watch through these apps free. However, while there is free content, dont expect them to have everything you want to watch available.
NBC App
You can watch several NBC Shows using the NBC app or at NBC.com. They make you wait 8 days before watching the most current episode, but the full-length episodes are available for the current shows free on most streaming devices. You just need to search your devices channel store for the NBC App.
Current episodes for the following shows latest season were available through the NBC app: American Ninja Warrior, Connecting, Dateline NBC, Ellens Game of Games, This Is Us, Transplant, The Voice, The Wall, and Weakest Link.
ABC App
While the ABC app requires a TV provider login for some content, current episodes of ABC shows available free. A lock symbol identifies which episodes require you to link your participating TV provider account. However, Locked episodes for most shows will become available to watch without signing into your participating TV provider account 8 days after the episode first airs on TV.
The shows look to keep at least the last 5 episodes available free. You can download the app to your mobile or streaming device or watch on ABCs website.

What If You Get No Cable TV
Not everyone will be able to get free cable television direct from the wall jack. In that case, you should look into HD TV antennas.
The great thing about technology is that we do have so many options available to us besides traditional cable television subscriptions.
One of the things that I hear people doing is using an HD tv antenna.
Sure, it sounds old-school, but there is a big benefit to it:
All over-the-air television signals are uncompressed and therefore are true high-definition signals.
That means even if you cant get free cable television the way I am able to, you may be able to at least get the next best option.
There are a few caveats, however:
- The further you are from a tower, the weaker the signal will be and the fewer channels you will receive
- The makeup of your home will also impede the signal
- Line-of-sight to a tower is important in terms of trees, mountains, hills, other buildings and structures
- Naturally, the weather will also play a part
The FCC even has a DTV Coverage Map showing you which DTV signals you should be able to access and how strong of a signal you should get.
Its not exact, but can be used as a reasonable guide.
But, if you get lucky and buy an HD tv antenna like one of the ones below, you may be able to keep your entertainment budget lower than if you paid for cable television.

Hulu On-Demand supports up to 4K Ultra HD video if the show supports 4K video this includes most Hulu Original shows. Hulu supports 4K Ultra on the following devices.
