What About The Hisense Laser TV

It’s a projector really and not just any projector, the Laser TV is an ultra-short throw projector. This means you can sit almost flat against the wall you’re using to display the picture on. This is different to traditional projectors which work like ones in cinemas. They need to sit further back and point directly at the wall.

We don’t test Laser TVs, or any projector, but these can be a good idea if you want a huge display, since they tend to be cheaper than 85-inch or bigger TVs. The 100-inch Laser TV costs around £2,500, while a similarly sized traditional TV can cost four times that.

Laser TVs also come with a screen that the projector beams onto and this will need to be wallmounted. It even has built-in speakers, which isn’t unusual for a projector screen.

What Is The Optimal Viewing Distance For Television

According to some eye care specialists, sitting roughly eight to ten feet away from the television screen is ideal. As a general guideline, you should be at least five times as far away from the screen as it is broad. If your television is 32 inches wide, for example, the best viewing distance is 160 inches, or around 13 feet.

Which Brand Of TV Is Best

There are a few different brands that if you pick any of their new or recent-generation TVs, you’re going to get a great TV. There are budget brands that you won’t have heard of and steering clear of them is a good call, but outside of that, there isn’t one brand that’s objectively the best.

Samsung, LG, Hisense, TCL, Sony, Panasonic, and Phillips all make fantastic TVs, and though, yes, Samsung, LG, and Sony make the best OLEDs, and you’ll find more value for money in a TCL TV than others, any of them are a good fit for your next TV.

Samsung TV Vs Sony TV: Features

LG Nanocell vs Samsung QLED (2020) TV Comparison: Which is Better?

Both brands use different operating systems to run their smart TVs.

Samsung goes with the Tizen OS smart platform for the majority of its new TVs. We’ve found Tizen to be fast to navigate and generally uncluttered. There’s a constantly refreshing ‘recent’ box that enables you to keep track of your most-used apps, too.

Overall, Tizen brings you a pretty competent experience, though the universal search function isn’t as accomplished as LG’s webOS platform.

Sony, on the other hand, uses Android TV, which offers more content and menu panes than its competitor. It’s a bit more cluttered, but that also means there’s more at your fingertips to choose from.

For UK viewers, Sony’s Android TV has rather cleverly layered a YouView program guide platform on top, deftly addressing one of Android TVs big weaknesses catch-up TV provision. This YouView app ensures that all the main catch-up services are provided, and accessible via a roll-back 7-day EPG.

What about voice assistants? Many Sony TVs come with Google Assistant integration. This makes sense given Android TV is a Google-developed platform.

Should You Buy A Hisense TV

You can’t walk into a shop, point at a TV and guarantee it will be good regardless of the brand name embossed on the bezel.

Sure, with some brands you’re more likely to get a good TV this way, but it’s never something you can guarantee. With any brand you need to do your research, look at reviews and find the TVs that’s right for you.

The lower average score of Hisense TVs just means your pool of models worth buying is smaller, but that doesn’t mean there are none worth your money.

To make sure you’re choosing a good one, make sure you check our expert TV reviews before you buy.

Lg’s Webos Presents Greater Ease Of Use

The operating system present in LG Smart TVs presents a superior design. By this we mean that it is easier to use than its rival. Its consistent design and easy to interpret, thanks to the Magic Control launch bar, makes it easy for both adults and children. The WebOS is intended for all members of the family.

Some of the functions that you can carry out in this system are the recording of television content and the possibility of connecting to the internet while viewing content from your mobile phone thanks to the Smartshare function. You can even control the Smart TV from your mobile.

Not only is it faster and more efficient than the one offered by Samsung, but it also offers better protection against cyber attacks. From this last point, Samsung has received a lot of criticism regarding its operating system.

In short, if you are looking for a quality operating system that can also be used by the little ones in the house and you are in doubt which is better, an LG or Samsung TV, the LG option will be the most appropriate.

A Qled TV Is Just An Lcd TV With Quantum Dots

The main takeaway is that QLED is closer to regular old LCD than it is to OLED, which I consider a distinctly different class of television, much like plasma before it.

Quantum dots are microscopic molecules that, when hit by light, emit their own differently colored light. In QLED TVs, the dots are contained in a film, and the light that hits them is provided by an LED backlight. That light then travels through a few other layers inside the TV, including a liquid crystal layer, to create the picture. The light from the LED source is transmitted through the layers to the screen’s surface, which is why we say it’s “transmissive.”

A look at the “sandwich” of layers in an LCD TV, where an LED backlight shines through a quantum dot layer and on to the LCD panel itself.

Samsung has been using quantum dots to augment its LCD TVs since 2015 and debuted the QLED TV branding in 2017. Samsung says those quantum dots have evolved over time — that color and light output have improved, for example. In my experience, however, improvements caused by better quantum dots are much less evident than those caused by other image quality factors .

Other TV makers also use quantum dots in LCD TVs, including Vizio and Hisense, but don’t call those sets QLED TVs.

If you have a healthy bank balance to play with, we’d point you in the direction of the 55in LG C9, the best performance-per-pound OLED TV we’ve tested and a 2019 What Hi-Fi? Award winner to boot. It’s available in 55in and 65in sizes both impress with incredible colours, intense blacks and a razor-thin panel.

The more affordable LG B9 offers all the benefits of OLED but is fitted with the company’s 2018 processor. It serves up a natural, colourful picture whether you’re watching in 4K or upscaling from HD.

If sound quality is a major factor in your decision, the LG E9 has more speakers than the C9 and outperforms most sub-£500 soundbars.

For 2020, LG has 5 ranges of OLED TV to look out for, including its first-ever 48in model. A number of these should go on sale around March 2020.

If OLED or QLED isn’t a dealbreaker, Samsung makes the best-value ‘small’ TV around. The Samsung 43in UE43RU7470 has an LCD display with edge-lit LED backlight. For around £430, you get 4K, HDR, HDR10+ and a magnificent selection of apps including Apple TV. For the money, it’s hard to beat.

If you’re after the cream of Samsung’s crop, make a beeline for the Q90R, an exceptional QLED TV that combines OLED-rivalling blacks with stunning levels of brightness and a wide viewing angle. We rate both the QE55Q90R and QE65Q90R models at five stars.

Samsung TV Vs Sony TV: Picture Quality

If you’re buying a mid-range television up to one of the top-of-the-line sets, it will likely come with support for high dynamic range , but you may not realize that HDR comes in several different forms.

There’s a base HDR10 format supported on every HDR TV which has a wider color gamut and improved contrast compared to regular SDR television. Most TV content these days is still in SDR, but more movies, shows and programmes are made in HDR every year.

But beyond that are two HDR formats that add ‘dynamic metadata’ to improve TV images by altering the TV’s picture settings depending on the scene you’re watching and the kinds of images onscreen.

The first was Dolby Vision, which is backed by Sony as well as LG, and found in TVs across Vizeo, TCL, and Hisense among others. Then there’s HDR10+, which is backed by Samsung and Panasonic though the latter has now pivoted to offer both formats on its mid-range and premium TVs.

The quick version? Samsung TVs have HDR10+, and Sony TVs have Dolby Vision.

Dolby Vision is really the more advanced format, with 12-bit color gamut instead of the 10-bit HDR10+, and is also more commonly found .

Admittedly, preferred HDR format is only really a concern at the higher end of the price range, but those spending big should think carefully about which services theyre likely to want HDR content on.

Samsung TV Vs Sony TV: Panel Technologies

Todays premium television market is divided into two panel technologies: OLED and QLED .

QLED is mostly used in Samsung TVs and the brand has been pushing its QLED screens for years now, which are known for their bright 1,000-2,000 nit screens, enabling vivid HDR scenes and high impact TV images.

They’re certainly a lot brighter than the OLED displays used by Sony for its high-end sets, which struggle to get brighter than around 800 nits though it’s not quite a fair comparison.

While OLED screens tend to be dimmer, they achieve a much more natural color contrast, given the organic film used in production. OLED displays are also self-emissive, meaning that each individual pixel emits its own light, allowing for incredibly precise control of light and darkness across the screen. Blacks really look like blacks, and while overall brightness suffers, the bright sections also don’t bleed into surrounding areas of the screen .

Theres often talk of burn in images on OLED screens, but much of this is anecdotal, and youd probably need to be working the set very hard for this to become a problem.

Samsung: A Little Bit Of Everything

WHICH TV IS BETTER 2020 SAMSUNG TV VS LG TV

Samsung is the elephant in the room when it comes to TVs, with a huge selection of 4K and 8K Smart TVs, and is the long-established leader in quantum dot technology, even as it faces more competition on the QLED front. Samsung TVs use the proprietary Tizen Smart TV platform, which offers a great ecosystem of apps, along with some of the richest smart features you’ll find: you get unique offerings for everything from smart home control to fitness-oriented features, plus support for video chat and productivity that other TVs simply can’t match.

Samsung is also dedicated to reimagining what the TV looks like and how it fits into our lives. From The Frame, an artwork-inspired TV that hangs on the wall, to The Sero, a TV that rotates to display mobile content vertically, Samsung’s Lifestyle TV collection delivers some of the most unique TVs on the market.

Samsung TVs also have their quirks, like opting for the Samsung-led HDR10+ format instead of the more popular Dolby Vision HDR format, but these are minor issues compared to the quality Samsung offers.

Sony: Premium Quality At Premium Prices

In the TV world, Sony is the equivalent of old money they’ve been making high-end TVs since the late 60s, and that experience shows in the highly polished Bravia TVs they sell, and the excellent performance those TVs provide.

Sony also delivers some of the best sound you’ll get on any TV, thanks to technologies like Acoustic Surface Audio+, which uses the glass of an OLED TV panel to create dialogue and sound effects, making for incredible realism.

Sony TVs use Android TV and Google TV software to meet all of your smart TV needs. The Google app ecosystem is enormous, and the Android platform offers deeper smart home integration and better voice interaction than any other Smart TV software.

Pretty much the only problem we have with Sony’s superb TVs is the price, which consistently runs more premium than the competition.
