What Services Are Supported On The Apple TV App Beyond Channels
In the UK the service is supported by BBC iPlayer, ITV Hub, Channel 4, My5, Amazon Prime Video, Disney+, Hopster, MUBI, Curiositystream, Classix, Shudder, Sundance. However, Sky’s Now TV and Netflix aren’t currently part of the offering.
In the US the service works with Hulu, CBS All Access, Showtime, HBO NOW, plus some smaller services. Netflix isn’t offered on the app.
Wrap A Rubber Band On The Bottom Of The Remote
This last tip is a bit of an obscure one, but it can make a huge difference. The Apple TV remote has six identically shaped buttons right in its center, making it hard to tell which way its oriented without actually looking at it .
If you wrap a small rubber band around the bottom of the remote , you can immediately its orientation when you pick it up. The rubber band also prevents the remote from easily sliding around on your coffee table.

How To Connect Your Xbox Controller To Apple TV
If you’re using an Xbox controller the process is much the same, but only some Xbox One controllers are compatible. You’ll need one of the controllers with the model number 1708, which come with the Xbox One S, or the Elite 2 controller that comes with the Xbox One X.
You can find your controller model number in the battery compartment on the back of the controller, so pop them out and take a look. If you bought your Xbox One console in the last couple of years, or have upgraded your controller, there’s a high chance you don’t need to worry.
You also want to first make sure your Xbox One controller firmware is up to date. Then do the following.
1. Turn on your Apple TV and go to Settings.2. Go to Remotes and Devices.3. Go to Bluetooth.4. Turn on the Xbox controller, then press and hold the Connect button for a few seconds.5. You should see the controller appear under the devices listed. Select it with the Apple TV remote and they’ll pair.
If you’ve got the a new Xbox Series next-gen console then you’re out of luck, for now… a line on the Apple TV support page reads:
“Microsoft and Apple are working together to bring compatibility for the Xbox Series X controller to customers in a future update.”
Use Airplay For Picture

AirPlay is also key to taking full advantage of Apple TVs picture-in-picture mode. Once youve started playing a video via AirPlay, scroll up on the TV player with your Siri remote and click the little picture-in-picture icon. This will send the video to a smaller window, and you can use any app on Apple TV to play another video at the same time. Youll find more detailed instructions in this article.

Apple is taking aim at original video because it could be a crucial enticement for people to buy more iPhones and other gadgets. You can’t overstate the importance of the iPhone to Apple. The phone, one of the most popular in the world, still accounts for more than half its sales and was critical to Apple’s march to become the first US company worth $1 trillion.
How Do I Stream Apple TV Plus
Every Apple TV Plus title is available to all subscribers in the Apple TV app. Apple TV Plus is $5 a month, and a subscription unlocks the full catalog of original programming.
But unlike Netflix and other subscription streaming services, Apple TV Plus doesn’t have its own dedicated app. Apple TV Plus programming resides inside Apple’s TV app, which overall serves as a hub to watch programming from other video subscriptions, and to rent or buy movies and shows a la carte. That can be a little confusing, but the TV app has a tab dedicated just to Apple TV Plus originals, so you can find them all in one place without other stuff that requires separate payments.

Well, with the Apple TV Roku App for the Roku and , you can watch your iTunes content on those devices .
And now, with Roku’s 2020 software release, select 4K Roku devices like the Roku Ultra have AirPlay capability! I’ve tested it and it works great! Many new smart TVs also have AirPlay built-in.
With these two features available elsewhere, I don’t really see a reason to purchase an Apple TV when you can get more apps with a Roku.

Once youve picked a movie or show, you can use voice commands for playback. Ask to rewind or fast forward by a specific amount of time, or say What did they say? to jump back by 10 seconds with closed captions temporarily enabled. You can also say Who stars in this? to see a list of actors.

Send Music And Video With Airplay

Theres no need to reach for the remote at all if you already have an iPhone or iPad in hand. Just hit the AirPlay button in most video or music appsyou should see it by tapping the screen once youre playing somethingthen select your Apple TV from the device list. Your media should start playing on the big screen. You can also mirror your mobile display by swiping down from the top-right corner, then selecting Screen Mirroring.
How To Test 4k And Hdr On Apple TV
Apple is pretty good at making technology disappear into the background. It doesn’t want you to worry about standards and such. That’s great, but if you’re a big A/V nerd you’ll want to know whether you’re actually watching Aquaman in 4K or 1080p.
The easy way to do this is to swipe down on your Apple TV remote, which will tell you whether you’re streaming it in 4K. If you want to know whether you’re running in HDR or not, you’ll have to go back to that Match Content screen in Settings. When you select Match Dynamic Range, your TV picture should sputter a bit and change. If it does, you’re good to go.
If you’re still not convinced, you can pair your Apple TV to your Mac. To do that, go and download Apple’s Xcode developer tool and make sure your Mac and Apple TV are on the same Wi-Fi network. Then, do the following:
1) In Xcode, choose Window and then Devices and Simulators.2) On Apple TV 4K, go to Settings then Remotes and Devices then Remote App and Devices.3) In the Xcode device manager, select Apple TV.4) Enter the six digit pin that appears on your Apple TV on your Mac. 5) On your Apple TV, go to Settings.6) In Settings, go to the new Developer menu.7) Turn on Playback HUD.
Now when you play a movie, a new developer HUD will pop up and tell you all the technical information about what you’re playing. You’ll see the resolution, whether it’s using HDR, which refresh rate it’s using, the frame rate and more.

Apple TV Plus enters into an increasingly crowded online streaming landscape. This includes the leader in the industry, Netflix, which has the advantage of having years of experience and an impressive catalog of both original and licensed content on offer.

Youll have to bump that all the way up to $11.99 to get ad-free streams. One of the biggest advantages of Hulu is that its frequently bundled with other services, like the very attractive Disney Plus-Hulu-ESPN Plus bundle at $12.99 a month.
