Is Conan On Tonight August 15th

Last Night on Provides you with information on all of your favorite late-night TV shows, including whether or not Conan is on tonight, August 15th.

It has been a while since weve seen a new episode of TBSs late-night TV show Conan, and unfortunately it looks like were going to have to wait a little while longer while the 2016 Summer Olympics in Rio start to wind down.

NBC and its entirely family of networks are going all in to provide viewers with Olympic coverage on any and all of the events, even as the event winds down this week. Some of the biggest events each day are televised late at night regardless of when they took place, leading many viewers to tune in instead of watching regularly scheduled programming on other networks like ABC or CBS.

In order to save some serious cash during the Olympics, these networks are airing reruns of their late-night TV shows rather than spend all of that money on new episodes that no one will watch. One such network is TBS, which is continuing to air reruns of Conan until the end of the Olympics.

Jimmy Vivino And The Basic Cable Band

Conan O

Jimmy Vivino and the Basic Cable Band served as the house band for Conan from the show’s debut in 2010 until the end of its hour-long format in 2018. It was fronted by longtime band guitarist Jimmy Vivino. The band also included Richie “LaBamba” Rosenberg on trombone, Scott Healy on keyboard, Mike Merritt on bass guitar, on trumpet, Jerry Vivino on woodwinds, and James Wormworth on drums.

The Basic Cable Band started out as The Max Weinberg 7 on Late Night with Conan O’Brien in 1993, and was initially fronted by longtime E Street Band drummer Max Weinberg. It was renamed The Tonight Show Band with Conan’s move to The Tonight Show in 2009. For the length of Conan’s 2010 North American tour, the band was called The Legally Prohibited Band, with Weinberg largely absent. Citing recent open heart surgery and a desire to remain on the East Coast, Weinberg officially departed in September 2010. For the launch of Conan, the band was newly christened The Basic Cable Band, with Vivino officially taking over as bandleader.

Jimmy Vivino and the Basic Cable Band’s final appearance as house band took place on October 4, 2018. However, a smaller version of the band, christened Jimmy Vivino and the Basic Cable Four, returned to serve as the house band for the final two weeks of Conan in 2021.

Dispute Over Timeslot And Host

2010 Tonight Show conflictThe Tonight Show

On January 7, 2010, multiple media outlets reported that beginning March 1, 2010, Jay Leno would move from his 10 pm weeknight time slot to 11:35 pm, due to a combination of pressure from affiliates and both Leno’s and O’Brien’s poor ratings. The plan would have Leno’s show shortened from an hour to 30 minutes. All NBC late night programming would be preempted by the 2010 Winter Olympics between February 15 and 26 a final decision about the programming changes was made by NBC on January 10. O’Brien’s contract stipulated that NBC could move the show back to 12:05 am without penalty , leaving him with no apparent recourse other than resignation.

On January 15, All Headline News reported that NBC intended to keep Conan off the air completely for three and a half years, without pay, unless he agreed to NBC’s terms. Insiders for both NBC and O’Brien reportedly dismissed the notion as “ludicrous”: “He has two and a half years left on his deal. How would they even do that?”NBC Universal chief Jeff Zucker made the threat with the belief that O’Brien’s contract contained a clause that allowed the network to bench him for an additional one year after his contract expires. An insider on O’Brien’s side claimed that NBC would be in breach of an addendum to the contract if The Tonight Show was moved to a later time slot.

In a 2010 issue of TV Guide, the timeslot dispute ranked No. 1 on a list of TV’s biggest “blunders”.

Conan Obrien Will End His Late

Conan OBrien has been a fixture on the late-night scene since September 13, 1993. This is a little unusual. Lets face it: most guys who are in this spot they came up here a different way, a fresh-faced OBrien said at the start of his very first monologue that night. A lot of guys, they spent years and years in the clubs, working very hard, struggling. But finally, they get here on television. My plan is to start on TV, claw my way into the clubs. Ten years from now, I want to be in high school.

OBrien never made good on that specific wish. But 28 years later, his hope to eventually downsize the scope of his emcee duties will come true. On Tuesday, WarnerMedia announced it had extended an existing deal with OBrien to include a brand-new weekly variety series that will launch following the conclusion of the long-running late-night series, Conan. The final episode of OBriens eponymous talk show will air in June 2021 on TBS.

In 1993 Johnny Carson gave me the best advice of my career: As soon as possible, get to a streaming platform, OBrien said in a cheeky statement. Im thrilled that I get to continue doing whatever the hell it is I do on HBO Max, and I look forward to a free subscription.

Nbc’s Tonight Show Disaster From Leno To Conan

With writing stints on The Simpsons and Saturday Night Live, O’Brien achieved his dream as a talk show host replacing the aforementioned Letterman for NBC’s Late Night when his contract expired. Letterman’s decision to leave NBC stemmed from the network’s refusal to grant him The Tonight Show following Johnny Carson’s retirement in 1992 in favor of comedian Jay Leno. With Letterman’s decision to leave for CBS to create The Late Show, the two battled over late-night supremacy with Leno getting the better of the two for the bulk of it in the ratings. NBC’s clauses in Leno and O’Brien’s contracts allowed them to make one of their most boneheaded decisions of network television. Leno would leave the Tonight Show in favor of a 10 p.m. slot and hour-long format called The Jay Leno Show that would lead into local news before the Conan-hosted Tonight Show in 2009. Unfortunately, ratings from Leno’s Tonight Show audience didn’t translate to his new time slot and O’Brien wasn’t delivering enough in ratings for NBC regularly losing to Letterman’s Late Show. As a meek attempt at a compromise, NBC offered Leno his old 11:30 slot and bumped Conan to midnight. Naturally, Conan scoffed at the notion which led to NBC buying out his contract and moving Leno back to hosting The Tonight Show in 2010.

‘conan O’brien Needs A Friend’ Is A Joke Name For A Podcast Sort Of

Featuring a roster of longtime pals, the final episodes can’t help feeling a little like a wake if a fun and good-natured one. Seth Rogen let it slip that he was about 12 years old when he first watched O’Brien on TV back in the mid ’90s another sign of how influential the host has been for a generation of comics in ways that are rarely credited. “This is the kind of thing you do when you know it’s over for you,” O’Brien joked during Rogen’s visit, as he lit up a joint that the actor and cannabis entrepreneur brought with him.

Given that O’Brien will soon lose his status as late night’s longest tenured current host, it was easy to read a double meaning in that moment.

You Wont Have Andy Richter To Sidekick Around Anymore

Richter, who has worked alongside Conan OBrien on his three shows, reflects on his career as late-nights No. 1 second banana.

When TBS broadcasts the final episode of Conan on Thursday, it will bring the curtain down at least for now on the long-running late-night TV career of Conan OBrien, whose trajectory from awkward outsider to venerated trailblazer spanned nearly three decades.

That broadcast is also a transitional moment for Andy Richter, who spent most of those years as OBriens sidekick on Late Night and The Tonight Show on NBC and then Conan. The 54-year-old Richter brought a seemingly effortless irreverence to interviews, monologues and comedy segments, injecting himself without overshadowing the man whose name was in the title.

With his departure, late-night television loses one of its last practicing sidekicks, further shrinking the ranks of a once ubiquitous role whose duties have either been parceled out to bandleaders or disappeared altogether.

When Richter spoke from his Burbank home in a video conversation in May, he tried to distill everything he had learned about late night as he explained why he thought the institution would endure.

Here’s The Real Reason Conan O’brien Decided To Leave His Talk Show After 28 Years

Talks about Conan venturing into new territory started years ago.

It’s the end of an era for fans of Conan O’Brien‘s late-night show.

June 24 will mark the official end of Conan on TBS, roughly 30 years after the comedian first started his late-night TV career. Conan had initially made his departure announcement this past November.

As longtime fans of Conan know, the beloved host got his start on NBC’s Late Night show in 1993 after taking over for David Letterman. He then moved on to his self-titled TBS show in 2010 when Jimmy Fallon was named the host of The Tonight Show. It’s hard to believe that a decade later, Conan is officially closing such a huge chapter in his life.

Why Is Conan O’brien Leaving His Tbs Talk Show

The Past and Present Hosts of " The Tonight Show"

When sharing the news this past fall, Conan joked in a statement, “In 1993, Johnny Carson gave me the best advice of my career: ‘As soon as possible, get to a streaming platform.'”

Turns out, Conan will be leaving his talk show to spend time on a new weekly variety series for HBO Max, a new streaming service from WarnerMedia that launched in May 2020. Meanwhile, he will continue to create his beloved Conan Without Borderstravel specials.

“Iâm thrilled that I get to continue doing whatever the h–l it is I do on HBO Max, and I look forward to a free subscription,” Conan quipped.

Though Conan’s sudden departure may come as a shock for viewers, the move is, in a way, a long time coming. In 2018, TBS, which is also part of WarnerMedia, announced its intent to reduce Conan’s late-night show from an hour to a half hour. At the time, Conan and network executives reasoned that it would resonate more with audiences if Conan were to use more of his time expanding his presence on digital, live and social media platforms.

Way back in 2017, conversations were already taking place between Conan and TBS president Kevin Reilly about potential adjustments.

“In the on-demand world we’re in in television in general, the nightly talk show â in terms of a habit with an audience â is evolving like everything else,” Kevin told The Hollywood Reporterthree years ago. “Yet at the same token, you have 30 million people watching these videos of his.”

Is Conan Obrien Retiring

While his show may be coming to an end, OBrien is not slowing down anytime soon. Hes making the very 2021 shift from cable to streaming, landing on HBO Max with a new series to follow Conan. When HBO Max announced the news last fall, OBrien said in a statement, In 1993 Johnny Carson gave me the best advice of my career: As soon as possible, get to a streaming platform. Im thrilled that I get to continue doing whatever the hell it is I do on HBO Max, and I look forward to a free subscription.

OBriens new show does not have a title or premiere date yet, but its expect to be a departure from his current traditional talk-show format, per TBS.

A Tribute To Norm Macdonald Every Comedian’s Favorite Comedian

After 11 years on air, Conan OBrien is ending his TBS late night show Conan. The late night host is wrapping up his eponymous show this week with a final round of special guests including a surprise visit from prankster Paul Rudd as he prepares to say goodbye to TBS and move onto a new project with HBO Max.

As the longest-tenured host in late night, OBrien has been making audiences laugh since long before Conan premiered in 2010. But now that its coming to an end, fans are wondering why OBrien is choosing to bid farewell to his TBS show.

Wondering why is Conan ending his show? Why is Conan ending on TBS? And is Conan retiring for good? Heres what you need to know.
