All this is to say that the shows we’ve watched over the past year have been more important than ever, so as TV Guide embarks on its annual ranking of the 100 Best TV Shows on TV Right Now, we’re not just celebrating eight hours of distraction here and twelve hours of entertainment there we’re honoring the series that have gotten us through and will continue to get us through.

Over several rounds of voting, TV Guide editors and a pool of freelance writers selected which shows made the cut and where they ranked, considering quality, social impact, and even personal bias . These are the 100 best shows on TV right now.

Krysten Ritter, Finn Jones, Charlie Cox, and Mike Colter, The Defenders

From 2015 to 2019, the Marvel Defenders shows Daredevil, Jessica Jones, Luke Cage, Iron Fist, The Punisher, and the team-up limited series The Defenders were some of Netflix’s flagship series, allowing the streaming service to get a piece of the Marvel superhero pie. But then Disney decided it wanted everything Marvel for its own streaming service, and the shows were all canceled. Now, their move to Disney+ is complete, where they and Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. join the rest of the MCU. The six shows vary widely in quality Jessica Jones has a Metascore of 76, while the misbegotten Iron Fist has a score of just 37 but all of them except Iron Fist have some good qualities. Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D., meanwhile, is the original MCU TV series, having launched in 2013, between Iron Man 3 and Thor: The Dark World. It ran for seven seasons on ABC. The former Netflix shows are the first TV-MA shows Disney+ has ever hosted, and could be a precursor to the eventual absorption of Hulu into the streaming service. -Liam Mathews

How To Get Away With Murder

With multiple TV awards and accolades, its safe to say Peter Nowalk struck gold with the critically acclaimed How To Get Away With Murder, which she debuted in 2014. Starring Emmy Award winning actress Viola Davis, who became the first black woman to win a primetime Emmy for her role as no-nonsense law professor Annalise Keating, HTGAWM has got to be one of the best legal thrillers that there is!

As the title implies, it follows Keating who works at a prestigious Philadelphia university, who with five of her students becomes wrapped up in a murder plot.

While Davis is impeccable as the complex character that is Keating, battling her own issues with alcohol, sexuality and so on, we also have an ensemble cast when it comes to her students known as The Keating Five.

We see Harry Potter star Alfred Enoch as the loveable orphan, Wes Gibbins, Jack Falahee as the ambitious, yet sometimes selfish Connor Walsh, Aja Naomi King as outspoken student, Michaela Pratt, Matt McGorry as Asher Millstone who begins the series completely unaware of his white privilege and Karla Souza as the headstrong, Laurel Castillo.

And if that wasnt enough to draw you in, we also have Bridgertons very own Shonda Rhimes as the executive producer. Theres even a cross over with Scandal in season 7 yes Olivia Pope and Annalise Keating were in a courtroom together. Talk about Black Girl Magic! – Grace Henry

The End Of The F***ing World

Alex Lawther and Jessica Barden star in this black-comedy series which first aired on Channel 4 in the UK and Netflix internationally. The series revolves around a 17-year-old who believes he’s a psychopath and wants to commit his first murder however, his target has problems of her own, leading them on a dark, twisted road-trip with plenty of shocks and surprises, and maybe even some romance along the way.

Both seasons of this show were perfectly pitched, unafraid to go to some seriously dark places and test our loyalty to the characters. It won’t be to everyone’s taste, but the comedy is sharp and the pacing moves along quickly, making for an exciting and easy binge watch across all 16 episodes. – James Hibbs

Dc’s Legends Of Tomorrow

Where to stream:Netflix

Through hilariously soundtracked fight sequences, a giant blue stuffed toy animal, ridiculously bad baddies, and questionably “good” good guys, The CW’s weirdest show has wormed its way into viewers’ hearts over the past six seasons. We’ve followed the Waverider along on the wackiest adventures to the future, the past, and more alternate timelines than we can count. Heading into the current season, there was only one place Legends of Tomorrow had left to go: space. But in true Legends fashion, they haven’t done it the traditional way. Two team members get lost in space, and the rest try to track down rogue aliens who’ve been scattered through time. The fact that a main character is revealed to be an alien and has always been an alien speaks to the writers’ impressive ability to continually throw zany plots at fans without having everything blow up in their faces. Instead, each time the show goes to another extreme, it just leaves fans asking for more quite possibly in song or puppet form. –Dalene Rovenstine

Chilling Adventures Of Sabrina

How to watch: Netflix

With its gorgeous production design and a genuinely spooky story, Netflix’s Chilling Adventures of Sabrina shares more in common with the likes of Buffy the Vampire Slayer than its cheesy ’90s predecessor. Kiernan Shipka is charming as Sabrina, of course, but the show’s real magic comes courtesy of its supporting cast, including Sabrina’s aunts — the daffy, good-natured Hilda and the arrogant and exacting Zelda — and her cousin, Ambrose , who often serves as Sabrina’s cheeky and stylish voice of reason. Throw in fun, campy horror and plenty of girl-power moments that will have you wishing for a coven of your own, and it’s easy to see why Sabrina is such deliciously wicked binge. –Noelene Clark
