Hbo Max Removes Gone With The Wind To Address Its Racist Depictions

Bill O’Reilly on Fox Blocking Jeanine Pirro from Newsmax

AT& Ts WarnerMedia pulls Gone With the Wind from HBO Max but plans to return it with disclaimers about the 1939 films painful stereotypes.

Numerous networks are being pressured to reassess their programming in response to simmering nationwide outrage and protests over the death of Floyd, the unarmed Black man who died after a white Minneapolis police officer pressed a knee on his neck for nearly nine minutes.

ViacomCBS announced Tuesday that its Paramount cable network would no longer run the reality series Cops, as pop culture portrayals of law enforcement are under close scrutiny. WarnerMedia has removed the 1939 classic film Gone With The Wind from its HBO Max streaming service until it can be presented with historical context on its depiction of Black people and slavery in the South.

OReilly was the most popular host in cable news and the tentpole of Fox News Channels primetime lineup until a series of sexual harassment claims and settlements with female employees and contributors to the network surfaced in 2016. He was fired in April 2017 following an advertiser boycott of his program.

OReilly has been producing his own program, No Spin News, in recent years and offers them for streaming on a subscription basis. The content from those programs is being reused on the First.

In a statement to The Times, ViacomCBS said it has no plans to drop the First, saying the company does not interfere with the programming decisions of the channels carried by Pluto TV.

Fox Kept Turning A Blind Eye Until It No Longer Could

Despite the fact that Fox News fired O’Reilly in April 2017, the network may have actually been turning a blind eye to the sexual harassment accusations that eventually derailed his career for quite some time, as a New York Times investigation uncovered.

As the paper reported in October 2017, the TV host reached an unprecedented $32 million settlement with former analyst Lis Wiehl, a 15-year Fox News veteran, the previous January. Then, that February, the network renewed O’Reilly’s contract, as if nothing had happened, signing a $25 million per year deal with him for four years. What’s more, 21st Century Fox acknowledged that they were indeed “aware of the woman’s complaints about Mr. O’Reilly” and, as the NYT concluded, they “tried and ultimately failed to contain the second wave of a sexual harassment crisis that initially burst into public view.”

Just a couple of months later, they changed their tune and O’Reilly was out. “After a thorough and careful review of the allegations, the Company and Bill O’Reilly have agreed that Bill O’Reilly will not be returning to the Fox News Channel,” 21st Century Fox said in a statement, as reported by Variety.

He Returned To Cable TV Sort Of

Despite being ousted from Fox News and declaring that TV news is “a nasty, dirty game,” Bill O’Reilly eventually returned to the small screen in a way. Page Six reported in May 2018 that O’Reilly was in talks with the cable channel Newsmax TV for a possible return to his former 8 p.m. time slot.

The move wouldn’t have been a huge surprise when you consider that, in April 2018, Fox’s former executive vice president of news, Michael Clemente, was appointed CEO of Newsmax Broadcasting. But O’Reilly never became Newsmax’s new headliner. Instead, he apparently licensed his self-produced No Spin News webshow, which the cable channel announced it would start airing in various time slots in November 2018.

“So get ready America for a rollicking half-hour of news and opinion you can’t find anywhere else!” read the Newsmax press release. “Change the channel on fake news! Don’t waste another minute of your time on the dishonest networks and their so-called ‘journalists.'” Yep, it sounds like O’Reilly’s definitely back.

How Bill O’reilly Feels About Not Being On TV Anymore

Last week, Bill O’Reilly was unceremoniously ousted from his long-running gig at Fox News following reports involving the payouts of multiple sexual harassment lawsuits over the years . He was on vacation when it all came to a head, and outside of some Twitter activity, he was relatively quiet in the days following his firing. But now, O’Reilly is back to basics, focusing on turning his popular website into the new headquarters for all things No Spin, and it’s where he unleashed his first big message to fans, sharing his feelings about not being on TV anymore.

I am sad that I’m not on television anymore. I was very surprised how it all turned out. I can’t say a lot, because there’s much stuff going on right now. But I can tell you that I’m very confident the truth will come out, and when it does, I don’t know if you’re going to be surprised – but I think you’re going to be shaken, as I am. There’s a lot of stuff involved here.

Without his TV show there to put him back in front of millions of people on a daily basis, Bill O’Reilly basically has two things he can currently roll forward with: keep on denying that anything happened and start talking about anything else to get everyone’s attention off of that other stuff. Which is where the renewed focus on www.BillOReilly.com comes into play.

    Where Is Bill O’reilly Today

Bill O’Reilly‘s TV show The O’Reilly Factor was a force to be reckoned with from its debut in 1996 to its end in 2017, and its host was one of Fox News’ biggest stars. The best-selling author brought in millions of viewers to the cable news channel with his 8 p.m. show and, in his last month on the air, he raked in an impressive 3.3 million viewers. His star shone brightly until sexual harassment allegations against him and his involvement in numerous multi-million dollar settlements began making headlines, tarnishing his reputation and costing him his job … but not his loyal fans.

Since the last episode of The O’Reilly Factor, which aired on April 21, 2017, the conservative host has been keeping busy and continuing to build his career by exploring new avenues, including online streaming and a possible return to the small screen. He’s also continued to solidify his status as a best-selling author and his name has yet to wholly disappear from the news. Here’s what Bill O’Reilly is up to today.

A Secret Lawsuit Against His Ex

Bill OReilly Is Out at Fox News After Sexual Harassment Allegations

Bill O’Reilly and his ex-wife Maureen McPhilmy divorced in 2011 after she accused him of attacking her in 2009 . But their drama didn’t end there. In 2016, McPhilmy was granted primary residential custody of their two kids and, shortly after, O’Reilly sued her for $10 million, accusing her of tricking him into signing their divorce and custody agreement with “false misrepresentations and material omissions.” He also accused her of using the money she received in the divorce to “finance an existing extra-marital relationship” and sued her divorce attorney for “aiding and abetting.”

According to Jezebel, the specifics of the lawsuits remain unclear, as O’Reilly has fought to keep the proceedings sealed to protect his kids from the inevitable media scrutiny. However, what is known is that O’Reilly won the suit against McPhilmy, and was later awarded $14,476,886.13 in damages. His suit against McPhilmy’s lawyer, MIchael Klar, which Jezebel reported was “largely identical” to that of the McPhilmy suit, ended in December 2018, when a New York appellate court dismissed O’Reilly’s complaint, because it fell outside the statute of limitations for a fraud case.

    Political Views And Media Coverage

On The O’Reilly Factor and on his former talk-radio program, O’Reilly focused on news and commentary related to politics and culture. O’Reilly has long said that he does not identify with any political ideology, writing in his book The O’Reilly Factor that the reader “might be wondering whether I’m conservative, liberal, libertarian, or exactly what … See, I don’t want to fit any of those labels, because I believe that the truth doesn’t have labels. When I see corruption, I try to expose it. When I see exploitation, I try to fight it. That’s my political position.” On December 6, 2000, the Daily News in New York reported, however, that he had been registered with the Republican Party in the state of New York since 1994. When questioned about this, he said that he was not aware of it and says he registered as an independent after the interview. During a broadcast of The Radio Factor, O’Reilly said that there was no option to register as an independent voter however, there was in fact a box marked “I do not wish to enroll in party.” But many view him as a conservative figure. A February 2009 Pew Research poll found that 66% of his television viewers identify themselves as conservative, 24% moderate, and 3% liberal. A November 2008 poll by Zogby International found that O’Reilly was the second most trusted news personality, after Rush Limbaugh.

In a 2003 interview with Terry Gross on National Public Radio, O’Reilly said:

    Film And Television Appearances

O’Reilly made cameo appearances in the films An American Carol , Iron Man 2 , Transformers: Dark of the Moon and Man Down .

In 2010, he famously appeared on The View, where they asked O’Reilly his opinion on whether to remove the mosque near the 9/11 memorial site. O’Reilly responded saying, that he believed they should and during the heated discussion stated, “Muslims killed us on 9/11” to which Whoopi Goldberg, and Joy Behar walked off the set. Barbara Walters chided the other hosts, and stated, “You have just seen what should not happen. We should be able to have discussions without washing our hands and screaming and walking off stage. I love my colleagues, but that should not have happened.” He also made appearances on various talk and late night shows including, The Daily Show with Jon Stewart, The Late Show with David Letterman, The Tonight Show with Jimmy Fallon, Jimmy Kimmel Live, and The Late Show with Stephen Colbert.

Disgraced Bill Oreilly Eyes Job At Chris Cuomos New Network

This reporting appears as one of several scoops featured in this weeks edition of Confider, the newsletter pulling back the curtain on the media. Subscribe here and send your questions, tips, and complaints here.

NewsNation is apparently not done stacking its roster with media men accused of misconduct.

Bill OReilly is in talks to join the fledgling cable channel five years after he was fired by Fox News following an avalanche of sexual-harassment allegations, Confider has learned.

NewsNation bosses are negotiating with the disgraced broadcaster to join as a contributor, two people familiar with the situation said. OReilly has already appeared several times as a guest on Dan Abrams nightly NewsNation show, including one hit in which he boasted about the millions and millions of viewers and billions of dollars he brought in for Fox News during his two-decade run as the king of the networks primetime lineup.

OReillys TV comeback means NewsNation would have three high-profile men accused of sexual harassment on its payroll. Chris Cuomo, who announced his NewsNation hiring last week, was accused of sexual harassment amid his CNN downfall last fall, and former Good Morning America exec producer Michael Corn, now president of NewsNation, was accused of sexually assaulting two junior ABC News staffers.
