Why Are Cable Providers Dropping Newsmax
It seems like Newsmax believes the cable providers decisions are politically motivated. Chris Ruddy, the channels CEO, echoed the censorship claims in a statement to the Los Angeles Times in January.
We count 11 liberal news and information channels in a typical cable package, with Fox News Channel and Newsmax as the only alternatives, Ruddy said. All Americans are harmed when any voice, liberal or conservative, is closed down. We believe that society as a whole benefits from more discussion and political views being represented, not less.
On its Media Bias Chart, media watchdog organization Ad Fontes Media gives Newsmax a reliability score of 18.33 and a bias score of 21.50, grading the channel as less reliable and more biased than Fox News but more reliable and less biased than One America News Network.

Trump’s preference for Newsmax over Fox News became clearer after the latter became the first news outlet to call Arizona for Democratic challenger Joe Biden. CNN’s Brian Stelter, in an on-air interview, asked Newsmax CEO Christopher Ruddy why the network chose to air “election denialism” and “bogus voter fraud stuff,” to which Ruddy replied that the network featured all points of view and argued that all of the other major news outlets who had reported Biden’s election win were “rushing”.
Following the certification of the electoral college of Joe Biden as the winner on December 14, 2020, the network began using the title, “President-elect” to refer to Biden.

Hicks Equity Partners, a private-equity firm with ties to a co-chair of the Republican National Committee, has held talks in recent months about acquiring and investing in Newsmax, according to people familiar with the matter, part of a larger effort that could also include a streaming-video service.
Newsmaxs viewership has risen sharply since Election Day, as it wins over viewers loyal to Mr. Trump who are frustrated that Fox News and other networks have declared DemocratJoe Biden the president-elect. Newsmax hosts have promoted Mr. Trumps claims that the election was stolen. No evidence of significant fraud has emerged or been presented.
It is unclear whether Hicks Equitys talks with Newsmax will move forward. The discussions show the belief among some investors and allies of Mr. Trump that there is room to mount a real challenge to Fox News, which has dominated the conservative media landscape for two decades.
The elections aftermath has stoked those tensions: Mr. Trump has criticized Fox News on Twitter while promoting segments on the network favorable to him and heaping praise on Newsmax and One America News Network, another small right-wing channel.
