Its One Of The Most Diverse Shows On Network Television
From the very beginninglong before diversity became a musical topic at the Emmy AwardsRhimes actively made sure that the cast of Greys Anatomy was inclusive and challenged conventional casting.
Take half the characters that you made men, and make them women. Take one character you were gonna cast one colour, cast them differently, Rhimes said in her television writing Master Class. I think its important for people to rethink because what people see on television changes what people think about themselves.
Rhimes commitment to representing a variety of race, gender, sexuality and faith on Greys Anatomy has continued through the seasons. In season 14, the show introduced Dr. Dahlia Qadri, the shows first hijabi intern, who used her hijab to save a young boys life in the season finale. When Dr. Qadris colleagues expressed surprise that she took off her hijab, she responded saying, I mean its a symbol of my faith, but my faith is about service and compassion, and he was bleeding really fast.
Im here for characters like the hijabi doctor on Greys Anatomy who guess what? Shonda doesnt even make a big deal of being Muslim! Shes just a doctor on the show and she just exists and happens to wear a hijab! Because THAT is us in America!

Season 14 also included the shows first transgender intern, Casey Parker, played by actual trans actor Alex Blue Davis .
Will Ellen Pompeo Be In Season 19 Of Grey’s Anatomy
If you’re wondering about how long Ellen’s tenure will continue on the show, we have answers and you might be shocked. In August, Deadline announced that Ellen’s role would be written to a “limited capacity,” as she’ll only appear over the course of eight episodes in season 19. Despite the shortened length of time on the drama, Ellen is not leaving entirely. She’ll still narrate all the episodes and be an executive producer.
The surprising move comes just after it was revealed she would star and produce an upcoming limited series for Hulu. The show will be based on the story of Ukrainian-born Natalia Grace, whose adoptive parents Kristine and Michael Barrett claimed she was an adult posing as a child.
While the news is super exciting for Ellen, we’re still wondering how much longer we can expect Meredith Grey to be working at Grey Sloan. In December 2021, Ellen told Insider that while she isn’t quite sure how Meredith’s time on the show will finish, she wants it to happen at some point soon.
Ive been trying to focus on convincing everybody that it should end, the longtime Grey’s actress told the outlet at the time. I feel like Im the super naive one who keeps saying, But whats the story going to be, what story are we going to tell? And everyones like, Who cares, Ellen? It makes a gazillion dollars.’
Is Greys Anatomy Leaving Netflix
Theres good news and bad news. The bad news is, yes: Greys Anatomy will be leaving Netflix on Jan. 1, 2022. But the good news, at least for those in the United States, is that the series will only be leaving Netflix in Latin American and Asian regions for now.
For the time being, Greys will be staying put on Netflix in Canada and the US, but since 20th Television has started to pull its series from Netflix around the world, it seems as though its only a matter of time until most of those titles are purged everywhere.
Currently, its unclear where Greys Anatomy will be moving to in the countries its leaving in 2022, but keep a close eye on other streaming service, especially those with ties to Disney. When Greys leaves Netflix in the US, it will for sure land on Hulu, where the current season is available to stream.

Grey’s Season 18 Takes Place In A Fictional World
Although Season 17 of Grey’s Anatomy planted its feet firmly in the era of COVID-19, Season 18 takes place in a fictional post-COVID world, where the rollout of vaccines in early 2021 mostly eradicated the disease, and life has gotten back to maskless normalcy by the fall. Going into Season 17, Pompeo had indicated that there was a possibility that it could be the series’ last season, but it would have been deeply unsatisfying for fans to have watched Meredith Grey for all these years, only to have her spend her final season in a coma rather than in an operating room. Creating an optimistic world in which modern medicine was able to halt a global pandemic in its tracks not only feels true to the thesis of the show, which has long been committed to the idea that doctors can change the world for the better, but also allows for a season that can explore any themes it wants, unhampered by PPE and the looming weight of constant death.
Is Season 18 The Final Season Of Grey’s Anatomy
After coming down to the wire on whether Season 17 would serve as the final season of Grey’s Anatomy, an eleventh-hour deal was ultimately reached, bringing Season 18 to fruition. As for Grey’s fate after Season 18, fans found out in January 2022 that the series got picked up for a 19th season, which will presumably unfold in 2022-2023.
News of the Season 19 renewal was kinda surprising, as both Pompeo and showrunner Krista Vernoff had indicated they were willing to wrap up the series if either the storyline or the network called for it after Season 18.
At the 2021 Primetime Emmys in September, Pompeo told Entertainment Tonight that fans who suspect the series finale could come after the end of Season 18 were “not far off,” adding, “I mean, I’ve been trying to get away for years. I have been trying. It’s not because I haven’t been trying. I have strong relationships at the network and they have been very, very good to me, and have incentivized me to stay.” On the more optimistic side, the 51-year-old Pompeo added that she’s willing to continue with the show “as long as there’s something to do,” noting that “we keep coming up with ways to have a reason to stay.”

I Experience Every Human Emotion In Each Episode
This show is truly an emotional roller coaster. I go from ecstatic to an emotional wreck in a matter of minutes and while I may start an episode loving a character, the pendulum usually swings by the episodes endbut thats why its the perfect show for just about any mood. Thats why Im so excited for the season 15 premiere on September 27, and hopefully, a whole lot more Greys Anatomy to come.
What Happened To Jo Wilson In Season 17 Of Grey’s Anatomy
After being dumped via letter and served divorce papers through the mail, Jo spends much of Season 17 trying to rediscover joy in her life, and realizes surgery isn’t where she’s going to find it. She winds up switching specialties to Obstetrics, where she falls head over heels for an orphaned baby in the NICU named Luna. Jo’s attempts to adopt Luna hit numerous barriers throughout the latter half of the season, but in the finale, she was finally granted full custody of the infant. To help pay for the adoption, Jo sold her shares in the hospital to Koracick, and used some of the excess funds to purchase Jackson’s former apartment for herself and Luna.

What Is Expected To Happen In Grey’s Anatomy Season 19
*WARNING: SPOILERS FOR SEASON 18*
Grey’s Anatomy season 18 left several unanswered questions so there is plenty of ground for season 19 to cover.
Firstly, after the residency programme was cut at Grey Sloan hospital, Miranda Bailey resigned and Richard Webber took leave to go on holiday with his wife Catherine. This saw Meredith choose to take over Bailey as Chief of Surgery so season 19 will see her in her new role.
That new role put her relationship with Dr Nick Marsh on the line though, after she told him to go back to Minnesota without her. Despite chasing him, she got there too late, with Marsh having seemingly already left. Surely it’s not over for them though?
There are also unanswered questions about Dr Hunt and Dr Altman who are on the run with their children after Hunt was reported to Bailey for his assisted-suicide programme. With both being main characters, will they return? Kim Raver – who plays Dr Altman – told People: “I mean, look, I hope that’s not the way we’re ending it. There is still a lot to be told with these two.” She added: “There are still stories to be told”.
Raver also said about the next season: “Season 19 is going to be insane. It’s like the bomb exploding and what is the fallout going to be? What show can pull off 19 years?”
There’s plenty more for season 19 to focus on too, like Amelia’s relationship with Dr Kai Bartley and Link and Jo’s friendship.
Does Ellen Pompeo Want Grey’sanatomy To End
“I’ve been trying to focus on convincing everybody that it should end,” Pompeo told Insider in December 2021. “I feel like I’m the super naive one who keeps saying, ‘But what’s the story going to be, what story are we going to tell?’ And everyone’s like, ‘Who cares, Ellen? It makes a gazillion dollars.'”

Is Greys Anatomy Even Getting A Season 19
Yes!! We just got confirmation that Greys will, in fact, be back next year, and Ellen is returning.
It wasnt always totally clear whether that would happen though. In May 2021 at a press conference ahead of season 18, Craig Erwich said the following, according to Deadline, when asked if the new season of Greys Anatomy would be its last:
Greys Anatomy continues to be a ratings juggernaut. The fans loved this season. I thought Greys Anatomy did a really incredible job this year telling the stories of all the frontline heroes who are fighting the good fight Covid. We will take Greys Anatomy for as long as we can.

So How Long Will This Show Go On
It seems like Greys Anatomy will continue as long as Ellen wants and could potentially try to go on without her if she did ever want to retire. There are plenty of other members of the extended Grey-Sloan family to keep the series true to its title. Honestly, Ellen could leave and Kate could stay on as, if not the titular character, the proverbial lead of Greys Anatomy going forward.
These shows, Greys included, are well-oiled machines. Theres no reason to fix what isnt brokenso get on it, ABC!
Film Types Macro Genres And The Filmmaker’s Voice
The creates additional categories beyond “subgenre” when discussing films, making the argument that all narrative Hollywood films can be delineated into comedies or dramas . The taxonomy also identifies fifty “macro genres”, which can be paired with the romance super genre. Using this approach, films like would be classified as a dramatic historical/family romance rather than simply a historical romance while The Notebook would be identified at dramatic disease romance rather than simply a romantic drama.
Similarly, musicals are categorized as one option for a filmmakers “voice” because the artistic choice to have the characters sing does not affect the story or the characters it simply alters how the story and characters are conveyed. Therefore, a romance film like would be categorized as a dramatic , romance , high school / coming of age , musical rather than simply as a “musical romance”.

Why Greys Anatomy Is Still So Popular
Its the highest-rated show on TV in the important 18-49 age demographic. The current season averages more than 15 million viewers per episode across TV and digital platforms. Greys Anatomy is also the second most popular streaming show in the world, behind only The Office in minutes streamed on Netflix in 2020. Most critics cite Pompeos well-rounded lead character, a diverse cast, and a smart blend of soapy elements with romantic comedy. It also harnesses the traditional medical drama to create a dependably popular series in an age when many shows struggle to stay on the air more than a season or two.
Viewing habits have shifted toward online platforms, and media companies have followed suit with their investments, moving money from what used to go into broadcast and cable TV production into streaming. Even Rhimes, one of TVs most coveted producers , now makes shows exclusively for Netflix. The result is a streaming landscape overflowing with new content, while traditional TV networks struggle to replicate the success they had with shows like Greys Anatomy in the 1990s and 2000s. For ABCs parent company, Disney, and for most other entertainment conglomerates, streaming is the priority moving forward.
Does Season 18 Of Grey’s Anatomy Address Covid
The 17th and most recent season of the long-running medical drama was written to incorporate the COVID-19 pandemicboth as “the medical story of our lifetimes,” and as a practical way to incorporate PPE into most scenes, keeping the actors and crew safer on set. Season 17 also saw protagonist Meredith spending many episodes in a COVID-induced coma. By the end of the season, while Meredith had recovered and returned home, several other characters had departed for good, and plenty more had gone through significant life changes, leaving us anxious to see what’s next for Meredith and her colleagues.
While a lot has changed since Season 17 wrapped, the COVID-19 pandemic is still not over, especially for healthcare workers. So while we don’t expect to see the pandemic take center stage in Season 18 the way it did in Season 17, we assume that Grey’s will still acknowledge it in some way. That said, nothing official has been said yet about the plots for Season 18, so the series could always surprise us.
